SACLC is the name given to Registered Healthcare Professionals who have completed an intense Post Graduate Lactation course accredited by Wits University and are considered South African Certified Lactation Consultants.

The South African Certified Lactation Course is a Post-Graduate Lactation Specific Course developed for Registered Nurses, Midwives and other Registered Related Health Practitioners in order to provide a high National Standard Qualification for Lactation Consultants in South Africa.

This intense course with a three hour exam, seeks to enhance the health of the community by promoting breastfeeding and encouraging the observation of published standards and ethical codes by the International Lactation Consultants Association and the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants, while catering for lifestyles, cultures and the National Health Structures in place in South Africa.

The course has been developed by Sr. Hettie Grové and Sr. Lynda Lilienfeld, who are both Registered Nurses, Midwives, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and International Certified Childbirth Educators. Sr Hettie Grové also has a degree in Nursing Education and Administration and is the author of the book “Born to Breastfeed, Born to be Breastfed”.

Both Sr. Grové and Sr. Lilienfeld have been in private practice running registered Well-Baby Clinics since 1997 offering Immunizations, Childbirth Education Classes and assisting mothers with lactation and feeding.
