Phunyuka studied to be a Dietitian in Medunsa now known as SMU. She has been working with breastfeeding mothers for the past 16 years. She started her work as a community service Dietitian in Letaba hospital where she was involved in maintaining the Mother baby-friendly initiative (MBFI) status of the hospital. She has been involved in preparing and assessing several hospitals on MBFI. Due to challenges that she came across while assisting mothers she then enrolled with Wits University to become a certified lactation consultant. Her day-to-day job includes helping mothers with latching their babies, expressing breastmilk (for babies who can’t feed on the breast), and helping mothers with any breastfeeding-related problems. Her wish is to see every mother and baby be assisted and supported to reach their breastfeeding goals.
